The Initial Investigation in Acai Berry

Acai Berry is a Brazilian berry that has gaining popularity as a healthy food. The Texas scientists have discovered its absorption to the human body and proved that it contains numerous antioxidants that help to keep the body healthy.

It is only in 1991 when the initial study regarding the acai palm-berry was done. The study was solely concerned on the antioxidant and nutritional components in pulp and juice. Then, the researchers also noted the berry’s activity against human diseases like cancer and heart problems.

As part of the laboratory test of acai berry, twelve healthy volunteers drunk the Acai Berry juice or pulp and described the taste as a mixture of red wine and chocolate. Scientists found out that the fruit is low in sugar so they decided to continue with the research. Moreover, an assistant professor in Texas that specializes in nutrition and food science told that previous studies have done to determine if Acai Berry antioxidants are absorbed in humans.

For the next step, people were asked to drink the Acai Berry juice or pulp and the researchers examined their blood and urine samples after 12 to 24 hours of consumption. The findings showed significant increases in antioxidant activity in the blood and its good effect to the human body. To date, several studies have been done about the fruit to determine more uses to human diseases.
